"I continue to be amazed... will never be able to understand...but I've chosen to simply respond with gratefulness and worship." Dyane Davis

Dyane Davis, the Worship Pastor at LifeSpring Church (Abbotsford) and her daughter were in a terrible car accident on November 2nd, 2023. The car was t-boned on the driver's side, and Dyane was trapped in the car until first responders could get the door off. In and out of awareness for the next couple of hours, she was taken immediately to the hospital by ambulance. According to paramedics, it could have been even worse if not for the strength of the car protecting them.

The muscle pain in Dyane's neck, shoulders and upper back was so severe that she, at first, did not realize how seriously her shoulder was injured. It was about 5 weeks later when the surrounding muscles finally started to relax, and she found her right arm still had very limited mobility. In her words, "I wasn't able to lift it even as high as my shoulder, so simple tasks, such as getting dressed and washing my hair, were difficult! The pain wasn't bad if I didn't try to move it, but it was a burning, searing pain if I moved it in the wrong way." As a result, she was scheduled for an MRI months in the future and started chiropractic treatments, massage, and physical therapy. Almost a year after the accident, when she at last got the MRI (October 31, 2024) it revealed two tears in the shoulder tendons and a bone twisted and pressing into the bursa sac! Physical therapy would not be enough. Bone shaving--potentially with a painful recovery--would have to be done, followed by surgery to repair the tears. An appointment was set to meet with a surgeon, and surgery would have been about another 6 to 8 months after that! (Our medical system definitely needs improvement.)

BUT THEN--on November 17, 2024, on Sunday morning, ten days before the scheduled appointment to meet with the surgeon, the church was met with a fantastic surprise! And I was there! The Executive Pastor of LifeSpring Church, Herman Heukelman, had just shared about the time when a painful rugby injury in his shoulder, although repaired and healed when he was 18 years old, had become extremely painful again in 2023, making him unable to lift or play a guitar--which was a big setback, since he is a worship leader, and the guitar is his instrument. One day at church, he explains, "I...decided to ask God for healing and just raised my arms till I got it above my head. The pain was gone! I had full mobility. Thank you Jesus." (The morning of November 17th, he had prayed for Dyane, hoping it would happen for her as well.)

Moments after Herman's testimony, Dyane stepped out of the wings and walked up to a microphone on the stage dabbing tears of joy and gratitude from her eyes. I will let her tell her story from here.

"I was leading worship that Sunday and was in particular pain that morning for some reason. My muscles felt tighter than usual and I had to take some painkillers in between the 9am and 11am service. During worship God interrupted the service in the best way. We had a time of prayer and many people came forward for prayer. I went over to pray for a friend and when I was walking back to my spot on stage, I noticed that my shoulder wasn't hurting. I didn't know when it had stopped hurting exactly and I didn't feel anything at the moment. When I was done leading worship, I went behind the stage to put my microphone away and had the thought "I should check my shoulder." One thing to know about this... I often 'checked my shoulder' during worship. I would try to lift my right arm as much as I could and see if I could raise it in worship. I don't know why I always did this, but looking back it seems that God prepared my faith for this moment! When I lifted my arm that day, it went all the way up! I couldn't believe it! I immediately dropped it in shock, and then lifted it again. And again. And again. Then I started rotating it around in circles and was just completely in awe - I could move my shoulder without pain!

Now I will tell you... it did feel different. All the muscles surrounding my shoulder injury had "atrophied" because of lack of use. So even though I was healed in that moment, I have had to walk out the healing by strengthening the other muscles: They had to learn that the injury was healed! I had to keep reminding myself even to actually use my arm because I had gotten so used to not using it. But in the past few months, I have gotten stronger and stronger. My physical therapist was skeptical at first, but she cannot believe the improvement and has completely changed my exercises. My chiropractor actually explained it to one of his students and at the end said, "She wasn't able to move it one day and literally was loosened up the next day. You can chalk that up to what you want to, but there [are] not many explanations for that." When I saw the surgeon, she looked at my MRI results and then tested my mobility and strength. This was her response: 'Your MRI results must have been incidental because what I'm seeing you able to do today doesn't match up with the scans. You do not need surgery.'

I continue to be amazed at the mobility and strength I have once again. I will never be able to understand the miracles of the Lord or when and where we will see His healing the way we hope to here on earth, but I've chosen to simply respond with gratefulness and worship. Every time I raise my right arm in worship, I am so very thankful."

It was so exciting and fun to see Dyane, dabbing tears, smiling, telling us what had just happened, and then demonstrating her healing by suddenly swinging her arm around. Just when I thought I might be running out of miracles to share!

God is still doing miracles in the Name of Jesus! And it is very cool that Dyane's chiropractor (his faith status unknown) immediately started sharing the good news with his students. God makes his presence known to "those who have ears to hear". My faith soars as I make these final edits and contemplate this assurance that Heaven is equally as real. Oh, so grateful...
